Post Conference Tour I : Gansu Line

This tour is to see the silage industry and animal husbandry in the semi-arid and hilly areas of the Loess plateau, Dingxi city, Gansu province, the northwest China. For this tour, we need to take flight from Beijing to Lanzhou. We are suggested to take the same flight from Beijing to Lanzhou. So we highly recommend our guests book the flight ticket at least two weeks in advance. BEIJING - LANZHOU:
• Departure: Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK) at 10:00 AM, Aug.12, 2023.
• Arrival: Lanzhou Zhongchuan International Airport (LHW) .
• Duration: about 120mins.
LANZHOU-DINGXI:
After arrival at LHW airport, guests will be picked up by bus to the Lanzhou, the capital of Gansu province and have a view of the Yellow River that across the city, and then take bus to the Tianqing International Hotel in Dingxi (about 1 h) for registration and accommodation.
On Aug. 13, we will have a field trip in Dingxi for a whole day. An introduction of the development of forage crops planting and silage industry in Dingxi for poverty alleviation, environment protection and animal husbandry development will be addressed by local officer from 8:30 to 9:30. Then our tour goes to the typical forage crops planting terraces, a typical farmer cooperatives for forage production, several large scaled commercial silage production companies, a local famous beef farm running a typical recycling agricultural system (forage planting-animal production-commercial organic fertilizer production). The field trip will end around 18:00. Meals with local cuisine and bus transportation are provided by ISC2023 Organizing Committee.

CHARGE STANDARD:
• The Conference Tour I charges US$100/Person. The price includes a whole-day field trip on 13 August, 2023 and three meals (Dinner on 12 August, 2023; Lunch and Dinner on 13 August, 2023).
• Hotel Accommodation: Guests can book local hotel accommodation, Tianqing International Hotel, via our official registration system. The single room charges US$50/Person/Night while the twin sharing room charges US$27/Person/Night.
• Note: The hotel accommodation includes daily breakfast.

 Dingxi City

Dingxi is a typical place of the semi-arid and hilly area of the Loess plateau of China. It located in Gansu province, one hour driving from the capital of Lanzhou of Gansu. It is known as one of the poorest area in China with arid climate (annual rainfull: 300-400 mm; evaporation amount: >1400 mm), harsh environment, frequent drought disaster, and serious soil erosion. The rainfull depended arid agriculture is the major income for local farmers. The major crops are maize, wheat and potato. Dingxi is also known for the plastic film covered cropping system and potato production. Twenty years ago, a large area of drought tolerant alfalfa planting project was launched by Chinese government in the semi-arid and hilly area of the Loess plateau in order to protect soil from erosion and to improve the ecological environment. For the past decades, how to alleviate the local poverty is the main task for the local government and residents. Since year 2013, the fast-growing silage industry changed their traditional agricultural production system and brought them an efficient way for poverty relief.

The Mogao Grottoes (https://www.e-dunhuang.com/) locate in Dunhuang, is famous for beautiful murals and statues, which was built in 16 century. The Mogao Grottoes are the nation key cultural relic with thousand Buddhas caves and was listed as the world culture inheritance in year 1987.
