Li Shengli is a professor and doctoral supervisor in the College of Animal Science and Technology of China Agricultural University. He graduated from China Agricultural University with a PhD degree in 1996. His research focuses on ruminant nutrition and feed processing, evaluation of nutritional value of dairy cattle feed, establishment of Chinese dairy cattle feed database, nutrition of periparturient dairy cattle and management of feedlot cattle. He is the chief scientist of National Dairy Industry and Technology System, the chairman Cattle Breeding Branch of Chinese Association of Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine, the vice director of the State Key Laboratory of Animal Nutrition and Feeding and the vice president of Dairy Association of China. Under the support of China Agriculture Research System, Key Program of National Natural Science Foundation of China and Major Research Plan of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, his group has succeeded in improving the milk yield, milk protein rate and feed efficiency as well as reducing the methane emissions, nitrogen and phosphorus excretion of dairy cows. These were achieved through investigation of the metabolism of major nutrients, evaluation of the nutritional value of feeds and application of the precision feeding system.
Prof. Li has obtained 23 intellectual property rights, including 11 invention patents and 4 software copyrights. He has published more than 172 papers (62 SCI) as well as 12 books and translations. He has also garnered many research awards and honors including the National Science and Technology Progress Second Prize, Provincial and Ministerial Science and Technology Award, and Shen Nong China Agricultural Science and Technology Award.
